Boosting the circularity of waste management: pretreated mature landfill leachate enhances the anaerobic digestion of market waste

چکیده

Adequate waste management is essential not only to ensure healthy living conditions but also mitigate climate change. Accordingly, the research on developing strategies boost circularity of systems ongoing. In this context, two streams are concurrently managed recover energy and materials in present study. Specifically, real leachate collected from a full-scale mature landfill site was preliminarily treated through active filtration remove inhibitory substances partially then tested, at laboratory scale, as nutrient solution for semi-continuous anaerobic digestion carbonaceous substrate represented by market waste. The results demonstrate that, an organic loading rate 1.0 gVS∙L-1∙d-1, process impossible without using solution, while nitrogen pretreated could balance carbon content provide system with necessary buffering capacity, ensuring stability. average methane yield (approximately 0.29 NL∙gVS-1) satisfactory consistent literature. Despite increases both (up 1.5 gVS∙L-1∙d-1) volume added 100% dilution medium), remained stable slightly lower 0.21 NL∙gVS-1, thanks supplementation. potential use produced renewable source residual digestate fertilizer would close loop managing these streams.

Anaerobic Digestion of Aerobic Pretreated Organic Waste

Anaerobic digestion is a biotechnology that can be used to convert various biodegradable organic materials into methane-rich biogas fuel. The anaerobic digestion of municipal solid waste and sewage sludge is a process that has become a promising technology in waste management throughout the world .Digestion occurs in a four-step process: hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis and methanogenesis...

Two-Staged Wet Anaerobic Digestion of Landfill Leachate and Organic Waste: The Effect of Organic Waste Type on Biogas Production

In this study, five different experiments were conducted over a period of 170 days to produce biogas by using a variety of mixtures of organic materials and landfill leachate. The aim of this study is to develop a more robust two-stage biogas plant that can accept a wide spectrum of waste products and continue to function without any malfunction. The facility has 5m3 total digester volume, with...

Waste Management by Anaerobic Digestion of Kitchen Waste- A Review

Kitchen waste (food waste) collected from hostels and canteen has high calorific and rich nutritive value to microbes due to which efficiency of methane production can be enhanced. Biogas (Green energy) as an energy source is cost effective and generates a high-quality renewable fuel. Biogas contains around 55-65% of methane, 3040% of carbon dioxide. Methane has a calorific value of 10 kWh/Nm 3...

Time behaviour of metals in the leachate of a pretreated solid waste landfill

In the landfills of municipal solid wastes there are a number of constituents which will leach under the influence of infiltrating water. Among the leached constituents there are also trace inorganics which are potentially hazardous to the environment, the most important being the heavy metals. It follows that the waste landfills have a high contamination potential in terms of heavy metals, bec...
